If you’ve been around here for a while, then you may already know that I previously reviewed the VIVI Cap, which is designed specifically for insulin pens.

But the VIVI Med is a little different.

Rather than replacing the cap of your insulin pen, this is a small temperature shield case that can hold certain temperature-sensitive medications, including insulin pens, insulin vials, GLP-1 medications, biologics, epinephrine auto-injectors, blood glucose test strips and other injectable medications.

And one of the big things I like about it is that it can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials.

For me personally, as someone who uses Humalog vials, that actually makes the VIVI Med a lot more useful than I first thought.

Two vials would usually be enough insulin for me, plus spare insulin, for around a week trip, so it would pretty much cover me on a city break!

So whilst I originally thought of this as more of a day-use product, I do think it could also be a really useful option for a shorter trip, depending on how much insulin you need and what medication you use.

I’ve been testing it out here in the UK, including on a few surprisingly hot days, and so far, I’m impressed.

Yes, I think the VIVI Med is a brilliant option for protecting your insulin or injectable medication when you’re out and about, travelling, sightseeing, going to theme parks, or simply carrying medication around in warm weather.

I also think it has more travel potential than something like the VIVI Cap, because it can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials.

I still would not see it as a replacement for proper refrigerated storage for a large insulin supply or a long trip.

But for daily use, travel days, theme parks, cruise excursions, road trips, hot-weather sightseeing days, or even a shorter trip where two vials is enough?

I’ve had an insulin freeze before, and visually it looked absolutely fine afterwards, and I’ve had insulin die in the heat (more times than I can count lol), and it doesn’t visually look any different, but it did not work properly.

And that’s the issue. You don’t always get a big obvious warning sign that something has gone wrong. It doesn’t always look “off”.

What is the VIVI Med?

Unlike the VIVI Cap, which attaches directly to an insulin pen, the VIVI Med is more like a small protective case.

You place your medication inside the device, close it with the correct size cover, and then use the light indicator to check whether the device is operating within the correct range.

TempraMed say the VIVI Med is suitable for a range of temperature-sensitive medications and care essentials, including insulin, medication vials, GLP-1 pens, biologics, epinephrine auto-injectors and glucose test strips.

It can also hold up to two 10ml insulin vials, which is one of the biggest benefits for me.

I use Humalog vials, and if I can fit two 10ml vials inside, that makes it much more practical for my personal set-up.

For a day out, I could use it to carry the insulin I’m actively using.

But for a shorter trip, say around a week, two vials could actually cover the insulin I need, plus spare.

So for me, this could be useful in two different ways:

As a day-use product for the insulin I’m carrying out and about.
As a compact short-trip solution if two vials is enough for the trip.

That’s where I think the VIVI Med becomes really interesting.

It’s still not a huge insulin travel case.

It’s not designed to carry every single diabetes supply you own.

But it can carry more than I initially expected, and that makes it more versatile.

What comes in the box?

Inside the box, you get the VIVI Med device, two different top covers, and simple operating instructions.

First impressions?

It feels like a really solid piece of kit.

It has a nice weight to it, without feeling massive or bulky, and it feels well-made rather than flimsy.

That’s important because if I’m trusting something to help protect my medication, I want it to feel reliable.

The instructions are also really easy to follow, which I appreciate, because I don’t want diabetes products to feel like another complicated thing I need to figure out. The basic set-up is simply:

Choose the correct size cover for your medication. Place your medication inside the VIVI Med. Close it with the correct cover. Press the indicator button to check the temperature status. And that’s basically it.

How does the VIVI Med work?

The VIVI Med uses insulation and heat-absorbing material to help protect medication from temperature extremes.

It’s a passive system, which means you don’t need to charge it, plug it in, or activate it in any complicated way.

There is a small light indicator on the bottom of the device.

As mentioned above, when you press the button, the light will show either green or red.

A green light means the device is operating correctly and the medication temperature is within the intended use range.

A red light means the VIVI Med needs to return to room temperature before you use it again.

One thing to note is that the light does not stay on permanently.

You press the button, check the colour, and then it switches off.

I actually like this because it keeps things simple.

There is no app to check, no battery you need to charge, and no extra accessories to pack.

My experience testing the VIVI Med

I’ve been testing the VIVI Med here in the UK, and we’ve actually had a few hot days recently, so it has been a good time to try it out.

So far, every time I’ve checked the indicator, it has shown green, which means the device is operating as it should.

Obviously, the UK is not exactly the hottest place in the world, but we do get those random hot summer days where your bag can heat up quickly, especially if you’re out walking, sightseeing, sitting in the car, or just generally out and about all day.

And for those kinds of situations, I really like the peace of mind that the VIVI Med gives.

The thing I love most is how easy it is to use.

When you’re travelling with diabetes, you already have enough to think about.

So any product that removes a step rather than adding another one is something I’m going to appreciate.

I also really like the size of it.

It’s small enough to pop into a handbag, day pack, sling bag, or even a bum bag, depending on what you’re carrying.

And whilst it is bigger than the VIVI Cap, it is still very compact considering it can hold up to two vials.

That’s the part that makes it more useful for me personally.

If I was only carrying one insulin pen for the day, the VIVI Cap would probably be the slimmest option.

But if I wanted to carry vials, or enough insulin for a shorter trip, the VIVI Med makes more sense.

For me, two 10ml Humalog vials would usually cover around a week, including spare insulin.

So I can absolutely see myself using this for a short trip, especially if I’m trying to keep my diabetes packing lighter and more organised.

Benefits of the VIVI Med

1. No charging, water, ice or refrigeration needed

This is probably my favourite thing about the VIVI Med.

Most insulin cooling products require some sort of preparation.

You either need to freeze an ice pack, soak something in water, put it in the fridge, or charge a device.

But with the VIVI Med, there’s none of that.

2. It can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials

This is a big one for me.

The fact that the VIVI Med can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials makes it more useful than I first expected.

For me personally, I use Humalog vials, and two vials would usually be enough insulin for around a week to 10 days max, including spare.

So this means I could potentially use the VIVI Med for a shorter trip, not just a day out.

Of course, everyone’s insulin needs are different.

3. It’s compact enough for day-to-day use

The VIVI Med is small enough to bring with you without it feeling like a big bulky medical bag.

I think this is one of the biggest benefits.

Sometimes you don’t want to carry a huge diabetes kit.

Sometimes you just want to carry the medication you need for that day, plus your usual essentials.

And for that, this works really well.

4. It feels really well-made

First impressions matter, and my first impression of the VIVI Med was that it feels like a premium product.

It has a proper solid feel to it, and it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.

That’s important because if you’re trusting a product to help protect your medication, you want it to feel reliable.

I love diabetes tech, but I don’t always want every product to feel like tech.

Sometimes I just want something that works.

The VIVI Med is one of those products.

Cons of the VIVI Med

1. It still only carries a limited amount

The VIVI Med can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials, or one pen, which is great, but it is still not designed to carry a huge insulin supply.

For me, two vials may be enough for around a week to 10 days max.

But if you’re travelling for longer, or if you use more insulin, then you’ll still need a bigger storage solution or a separate plan for your main insulin supply.

So I’d say the VIVI Med sits somewhere between a day-use product and a short-trip product.

It’s more spacious than the VIVI Cap, but it’s still not a full diabetes travel case.

2. It is not a replacement for a fridge

This is important.

The VIVI Med is not designed to replace proper refrigerated storage for every situation.

You should still always follow the storage instructions for your specific medication.

I see this as a product for protecting medication while you’re out and about, or potentially for a shorter trip depending on your insulin needs and medication guidance.

But if I was travelling for a longer period and carrying lots of insulin, I’d still want a proper plan for storing the rest of my insulin.

3. The price point

As with the VIVI Cap, I do think some people may look at the price and think it feels expensive.

And I get that. There are cheaper cooling pouches and gel-pack style products on the market.

But I think the value of the VIVI Med is in how low-maintenance it is.

And actually, now that I know it can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials, I think it’s even more useful than I initially realised.

Would I use the VIVI Med for a long trip?

For a longer trip, probably not on its own.

But for a shorter trip?

This is the biggest change in how I think about the VIVI Med.

Originally, I saw it mainly as a day-use product.

But because it can hold up to two 10ml insulin vials, I think it could work for a shorter trip too.

Final thoughts: is the VIVI Med worth buying?

Overall, I’m really impressed with the VIVI Med.

It’s simple, compact, well-made, and genuinely easy to use.
